Following Yellow Brick Roads

It’s not uncommon to hear a near, far, in a motor car via Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or the cackles of Professor Fate via The Great Race on the smallish tellie screen from our lounge room.

The older media has a slower pace, lengthy interludes, and introductions that teach a different kind of patience compared to YouTube shorts and Facebook scrolls.

The television welcomes so many of the classic movies and can be a focal point of family bonding and little bums that don’t always want to sit still. Much like those magnificent men in their flying machines who go up tiddly up up and down tiddly down down.

Occasionally there’s popcorn, or pikelets as we sing along with a spoonful of sugar and a do-rei-mi.

They are a reminder of simpler times. Simple plots wrapped with hidden meanings and moral lessons if you dig a little deeper.

Behold, the Yellow Brick Road. The enchanting pathway that guides Dorothy through the mystical realm of Oz. She harbours aspirations to encounter the mighty Wizard himself. Meeting and greeting many characters along the way. Within this tale, the Emerald City evolves into a profound milestone, embodying both the essence of Dorothy's expedition and the embodiment of her yearnings.

As I write with my brain on a weird autopilot sort of overdrive right now, I think about watching the innocent little faces both on the screen and surrounding.

I envisage that each glittering yellow brick represents a step towards accomplishing our goals. The smaller parts of our bigger dreams.
