The Internet is Down...and it's Still Raining
Sep 01, 2024The internet is kaput.
The once reliable, go to to check something at the tap of a computer password, gone.
Fried pins inside the socket.
It's making me agitated and restless, and I want to tear everything down.
The dog is also depressed — sombre and melancholic with a heavy sigh, wanting a walk without getting drenched.
I have blogs to write and a pile of work to catch up on.
The process of writing on my phone is tediously 10x slower and arduous on my brain.
It stalls me when I want to look up the definition of a word or follow a thought train quickly.
I know, I know. We lived without the internet for YEARS and survived okay with encyclopaedias and tin-can phones.
And, trust me, there are so many times that I miss the simplicity of life before the digital age took over.
Not today.
Simply put, things are not the same as they used to be.
There is definitely extra pressure.
There is definitely a need for the Internet when having an online business (sounds obvious, right?!).
The kids are already biff baffling around at each other, asking when it will be back online.
Somehow the lack of internet is easier when at a campground.
Easier when it isn't meant to be a lazy Sunday at home.
Easier when it's not raining.
Again, I'm reminded that for generations before me - people were doing 'fine' weren't they?
They made their own 'fun'.
Apparently they had all the time in the world.
You see, my week was mapped out already, and some of the stuff isn't shiftable.
Some of this stuff would be best fit into today before the mountain of a monstrous workload gets larger and larger and caves in on me.
I'd love to be as carefree as my daughter is while perched on my desk next to me right now and carry on.
Maybe she can teach me a thing or two?
In fact, I know she's here to teach me a thing or two!
I was already up early to try to beat the onslaught of life that awaited me.
I went to the supermarket. One of the LEAST favourite places for me.
It was hectic, and the kids were, to put it best, unhinged.
Because as I've been blogging along many of my more favourite things than the supermarket have fallen by the wayside.
The boot pickup, which I KNOW works best for our family, has dropped off the radar.
The keeping on top of housework tasks in a specific slot in my calendar also fell off that wagon (how big is that wagon anyway???)
The posting of blogs, also running away (although I have remained consistent in the writing of them every day!)
So, let's do a quick stocktake of life at the end of that big outburst for a just a minute.
Five things that are working:
- Fewer distractions and typing character by character.
- Blog writing is still happening daily.
- A roof over the head and fire blazing.
- Food in the house now (let's see how long it lasts)
- Remembering that this too shall pass.
While I remember all that is and all that will be, I also know that I can write. I am doing what I love, and that is the honest truth.
